The Beach Club - Activities for January-February 2002
January 1-8 - Ms. Huang Ye - one of May's friends from the pottery-realm, who lives in Dallas, came to visit the very first week of the NEW YEAR!
and - sometimes when we are bored (because there is no wind) we'll do some roller-blading:
AND - the end of January and the begining of February we went on the "Kicker-Boat-Trip" up to the wee-head-waters of the St. Johns River - this was a very interesting, challenging & enjoyable couple of days on the river with (mostly) Bill's cousins & uncle & such from Jacksonville.
Greg-acting as the launch & fuel-director!
lower-left is Ms. Peggy-Sue (PS) Lamb Williams - the organizer (extraordinaire) and in upper-right Ms. Joy Lamb
some white SeaGulls we saw near the inlet to the 426-fish-camp (which didn't appear to have a name?)
from left to right: Mr. Pollard, Suzanne(Lamb-Holley), Mr. Pollard (jr), Mac Holley, Mr Johnny Williams, Ms. Peggy-Sue (Lamb)Williams (otherwise known as "PS", Mr Billy, Mr. Gray Davis, Dr. Moomaw, Joy Lamb, Bronson Lamb, Michael (Lamb) VanDyke, Greg VanDyke (Ms. May Wong is taking the picture!)
We continue to be 'eager' about this new sport of "KiteBoarding" and May has become even better, lately - with several times on the water - Mr. Bill in the SeaDoo, following her, she's getting better and better all the time. However, some times I feel that the marketplace doesn't make enough things for the 100 pound kiteboarder, and lately she's taken to 'sky-flying' - she got yanked out of the water the other day - about 5-feet up (and kicking her legs dramatically to try to do whatever, it was definately a sight to behold _ when they make a totally water-proof digital camera that I can attach to my head, or something we'll have some really great video...
FURTHER: - May helped ME launch, the other day - on my 19.5 (biggest kite we own - about 38 feet - (about 13 meters) tip to tip and so it goes UP in the air - and the next thing I know I'm about 5 feet in the air and then the board-leash tightens-up and the board is stuck in the shallow water in front of our house - I'm five feet up - May's thinking "Will he let go and break a leg", I'm thinking "Will I end-up needging denture-work because I land on this dock, next door, but finally I came down and had a great - if short sesssion on my new kiteboad (home-built-see-below-for-details!)...
and - sometimes after kite-boarding we do some kite-drying in a very organized & logical manner...
AND - if you like to see 'the how-to' - you can view our web-page on how to make vacuum-bagged / carbon-fiber-cloth, Divinycell, and W.E.S.T. (epoxy) resin kiteboards - we've now made two - and the details are here: NewKiteBoards website
