August - September 2003 at the Beach Club,

It has been a LONG TIME since Mr. Bill updated our web-site and there's really no 'excuse', he's just been lazy and good for nothing - especially since he returned from Vancouver on 11 June and Ms. May arrived back on 14 July.  He was here alone for almost a month - he SHOULD HAVE updated the web-site, but, of course, didn't...

We had a very unusual morning on Sunday, 10th August...  - Went to the beach at about 06:30a.m.
and what did we find but a Momma Turtle, about 2 1/2 feet long, laying her eggs.  VERY unusual at this time of day (during daylight hours) and year (late summer).  It's 'normal' for a group of volunteers called the "Turtle Rescue" group to come out and stake-out turtle nests.   However, this Momma turtle was still digging when we got there.  Since we didn't know the number of 'Turtle Rescue' we called 911, and they sent the Turtle Rescue people out, later.

and - here's what it looks like after the 'Turtle Rescue' team has 'staked' a turtle nest...

So - that was our great 'Turtle Adventure' - we'd definately seen these nests staked-out all over the beach(es) around here and other parts of the state.  There are, too, white PVC pipes on some beaches where the nests are closer to the waterline.  So we knew there were lots of turtles around and turtle nests, but we'd never actually seen one digging, and crawling and so-forth, so this was a really big thing for us...

our "House" at 8 Perriwinkle Circle:

We spent a while during late-July, early August 'sprucing-up' the house so that we can SELL IT!   We hope to move-onto something smaller, less expensive, less upkeep, and less other things (to give us MORE TIME to "play" and "be retired"...
We have re-listed our house for sale, - see these listing-places:
And we are offering 3% to 'agents / brokers' - hoping that will 'entice' someone to come along and help us sell IT!

Other subjects of interest, though are annotated here...

squirrel
A  (little-tiny) friend of ours - he / she / it comes to visit whenever there's  'squirrel food' around
(this is obtained in the grocery store by buying something called 'bird food')

May's pottery:
May took a course in "Metchosin"(http://www.missa.ca) (28June - 12 July) on Vancouver Island with Robin Hopper, the glaze guru.

Here's some photos.
If you're interested in glazing, here's May's site : http://www.wingwong.ws

And - here's a picture of Ms. Lily's pot she made while here last Christmas (2002)...

Our two cats, Mr. HG, and Ms. SM, continue to be the light of our lives, and we enjoy them greatly always and all-ways.   Additionally, for this weekend we're 'cat-sitting' for our friend's two cats, Possum and ???, this is always a great treat to learn about / meet and greet other cats.

AND _ Ms. SM was helping Ms. May "herd" the beach-birds during this photo-shoot.
Check out the Herding Cat and the Beach-Birds:  picture1   and     picture2.

the Weather:
Fortunately we got some 'wind' on this past Wednesday, (13th), and it were GOOD for 3 separate sessions kiteboarding (about 4 hours total).  It was the first time in 5 weeks (since I blew-out my 3 year old 9.5 kite on 12 July) that I'd been able to go kiteboarding.  It was a great thrill!

Boat-Ship-Yacht Design:
Yes - Mr. Bill continues to pursue his 'dream' of learning more about boat-yacht-ship design. And he has now turned-in his 'Final Lines' drawing for his Module 1 (of four Modules) for his Westlawn program. (http://www.westlawn.org).   In the process of pursuing the Westlawn program I'm learning a LOT about AutoCAD, having just finished-up (with yet another "A" (have a perfect 4.0 GPA)) another AutoCAD (http://www.autodesk.com) course, this one on "Civil Engineering-Land Development".  Like others it was at IRCC - (http://www.ircc.edu) the local Community College.   They are, by and large, quite good courses...   I'm also attempting to learn the ins and outs of another CAD tool:  "Graphite".  It's a general purpose CAD tool.  (see http://www.ashlar.com for more details).

Today is Saturday, 16th of August:
We went to the beach today, and realized the latest storm had kicked up the sand and made it quite hard for a ways, and it might be 'just right' for 'land-sailing'.   Mr. Bill 'thought' that all the 'parts and pieces' were here, but - unfortunately the wheels were in Jacksonville at his Mom's so we couldn't go landsailing on the beach - (which would have been "Much Fun"...)  So - this is yet another case of Mr. Bill's memory failing him, - having forgotten he'd taken the landsailer wheels to Jacksonville.   Soon as Mr Bill gets this all organized, Ms. May will, I'm sure, take some digital pictures of Mr. Bill exceeding the beach-speed-limit and of his extensive 'road-rash'!... - (Stay Tuned!)...

AND _ a 'Little Known Fact' (LKF) about a well known subject: The "Dewey Decimal System" - that
set of digits and letters one sees in a Library, on the books... - This 'system' (Dewey Decimal Classification System) is the purview of something called the "Online Computer Library Center" (http://www.oclc.org).
ANYWAY _ there's a definite meaning to each of the 'decimal' numbers - and some numbers, (like the one in my AutoCAD 3D modeling book (620'.0042'02844369 -- dc21 <== this is what you find in the front of your
book (assuming it has USA-base LCC (Library of Congress Cataloging) information))... here's an explanation:

SO - that's about all, for now (19th August) - maybe more later, soon as something 'newsworthy'
develops...        keep in touch - write us:   bill@vikingasia.org   sailormayw@vikingasia.org
