Today is Friday, 31st of October:

TrikeTrip
- here's the 'GPS-track-log' of my afternoon ride - 9.8 miles total distance, 29.2 mph maximum speed...

Today is Thursday, 30th of October: - here's the latest gnus...

Bill on his TriceQ in the front yard

Today is Friday, 24th of October...
- I just 'happened' to be outside (to take-in the empty trash-cans) and noticed a pretty sunrise in the making...

Today is the 21st of October, a Tuesday - and, well - things keep going on... The shoulder is definitely recovering, my cold is getting much better, Ms. Siew Mei has walked all over one of Ms. May's beautiful charcoal drawings (and added little cat-feet-images to Ms. May's 'original'!), Ms. May is potterying, and Mr. Bill is, well,- see below.

Mr. Bill's thinking about a new toy (see below).    I've been researching these for a while - and rode John's when we were in Kentucky several weeks ago.
ICE-Trice-Q.jpg
The one in the picture, above,  is an ' ICE' (Inspired Cycle Engineering  (U.K.) Quick model ).  This one has 'twist-grip' shifters, and I'll probably get 'bar-end' shifters - a little more money but a lot nicer technology.   This one also has 'drum' brakes - more robust (especially with the rain and sand here in Florida).   This one is the "Q" version - lower to the ground than the "T" version also from 'ICE'...   This one is 'most similar' I think - to the one I'm most likely to buy...  - But - we'll see - hope to make a decision by the end of October - and have the trike by Thanksgiving, however, only time will tell...

As usual - it's surrounded by a blue-box so you can click on it for a larger version...

There are a LOT of others:   HPV (Germany) --  Greenspeed (Australia) --  Catrike (USA)  --  Windcheetah (UK (we originally saw this in Australia during our participation in their  " Big Ride " there in 1999) and  TerraTrike (USA)... - I've found some dealers here in Florida but not many.

Here's some 'engineering innovation' for you... - 99% of all both upright / 2 wheel bicycles as well as recumbent 2 wheelers and even these recumbent 3 wheel tricycles have a gearing system on the front (with the 'crank-set') and on the rear - called a 'derailler' (this can be spelled several ways) system that moves the 'moving chain' from one sprocket to the next to change gears - this system is proven, it works, it's been around for YEARS and it's used on 100's of thousands of bicycles... ... ...

However, it's open to the dirt & dust - and especially if used off-road - it's prone to damage / breakage from rocks, stones, trees, etc.

In the 'Old Days' most US-based kids had a Netherlands-made thing called a '3-speed-hub' (in the rear of their bicycles)...  This thing was made by Sturmey-Archer, and is still the 'old-stand-by'...  The same company now makes an 8 speed hub, as well as the old stand-by 3 speed.

The NEW THING (which ain't cheap) - but which is similar, for the rear is the ' Rohloff 14 speed hub ' - made by a German firm.    The Japanese firm Shimano makes a similar item with 8 speeds called a "Nexus" hub...    In the front you can get a two-speed crank-set-internally-geared system called Schlumpf (a Swiss engineering company)...  ( this is a video-link )  SO - you can gear both ends of the drive-train with internal gears (no muss, no fuss, nothing hanging-down to get damaged, all you have to do is change the oil.)   One of these rear hubs is with some guy who's circumnavigating the planet and has about 30,000 kilometers on one - and it's still going strong!

The 8th of October (2008) was our wedding anniversary - but because Mr. Bill was feeling "ookie" (brought home a cold from Kentucky) we didn't do much - however, we have celebrated in our own small way...

TODAY, is the 3rd of October - and we're HOME! - with our SBC (Small Black Cat) amongst other things - (Like the cold I brought-home from Kentucky...) - But - though I felt 'OOKIE' to a very VERY LARGE degree (EARLY (like 01:00 a.m.) this morning - I'm better, now - and have 'pressure-washed' four of our rugs - that means they're less sandy, dirty, etc... - I also washed most of the mini-van (especially the roof which was REALLY DIRTY!), and it's now scheduled for an oil & filter-change on Monday.  I've also taken-down all the hurricane shutters, so we have LIGHT! in / on things - and that's VERY NICE... and Ms. Siew Mei is meowling piteously all the time - we're still not quite sure what it is that she wants, but it's good to hear her talking after 11 nights away with no cat...  So things are getting back to normal, here...

I must say we had a REALLY GOOD TIME and LEARNED A LOT at the Lookout Mountain Flight Park "Women's Fly In" - in Lookout Mountain, Georgia...  Though I didn't get to fly - but Ms. May did - it was a great 3 days there... - Ms. May's documented this at her blog-site.  So I won't say more, here, since she's done a very good job of documenting our learning and her flying...

Today is the first of October - don't get all fired-up - nothing but 'boiler-plate' here, now - it's ONLY the FIRST, give me a break - gotta wait til something 'newsworthy' happens!!!

Some people have asked, WHERE can I FIND, "X" - whatever the heck "X" is?, but in my case - these two things are being asked about...

The "Tire Changing Web-Page"     and/or the       VANC (VikingAsia (Networks and Computers) Consulting) web-page.
