Wednesday, 15th of July...
Some
things happening today on the L.O.S.T. - we did 40 something miles, we
started early (at 06:10 a.m.) and the first 5-10 minutes got our
full-breakfast with the mosquitoes.
But
then as soon as daylight started creeping in the mosquitoes went away
for a while... (if you want a HUGERESTEST sunrise picture - click here -
Ms.
May tested out her iPod to see if it would last a 'half-lap' (about 2
hours) and it did. Apple's amazing battery technology never
fails to amaze us - and this iPod is a couple of years old, too,
(though it does have the 'color-video-screen' on it!)
Mr.
Panda Bear has been a 'kept bear' for quite some time. As a 'kept
bear' we've loved him and cared for him and done surgery on him when
needed. However,
when both we and he found there was a business for sale, AND that the
business was
'right up his alley' - then we decided to help him buy this business...
so that he could gain some independent status in his life!
He is in HEAVEN - with all the new bamboo shoots. It turns
out
there are a LOT of Pandas around to help him make his business
profitable and successful!
Friday, 10th of July...
Some days Mr. Bill 'works' for a living... - the scenery might be good
here - but one might also be concerned with falling-off (I DO have a
'safety-harness' on!)
This location happens to be 'Bathtub Beach (reef)' a Martin-County park
on the ocean, very near-by where we live. Yesterday (Thursday,
9th) I spent most of the morning at Sebastian Inlet (north side
(Brevard County)) taking-apart a camera (video) processor-board,
single-board-computer, hard drives, intefaces, power-supplies, etc.
etc. etc. that had been "" toasted "" by what appeared to have been
either a direct-hit lightning strike or very very near-by.
THAT set of printed-circuit boards will take a while to re-build but
we'll be back in business in both places within a few days. This
is VERY interesting work and it's astounding how the 'salt-air' affects
things (and ruins them) to say nothing of the lightning, and other
effects on these things from being out-doors 24 x 7 x 365...
When I 'go remote' (Sebastian was a couple hours drive away) I don't
have a huggly-hunny-bunch to take pictures (or hand me tools, or
whatever) so no pictures of the work at Sebastian Inlet... - but if you
want a picture of the 'Unit' - it's here - the picture's view is back towards the west, though, so you don't get to see the ocean...???
Sunday, the fifth, and YES there was a FULL day of 'activities'
- 40 miles on the L.O.S.T. on our cycles - before 09:30 a.m.
(see details of Ms. May's new bicycle, below) - the typical lake
sunrise pictured above (yes - you can click for a larger version (and
YES the iPhone still takes good images (even if it doesn't zoom?!)))
Then
back home to meet friends from afar who wanted an education in all
things kiteboarding wise - so we went there, and did that - and
amazingly enough had terrific wind for the begining types... - Sorry
- no pictures of the getting-wet activities...
AND - just in case you did not NOTICE THIS: the MOON is FULL this evening...
as
Mr. Bill did an 'early nap' - and now he awaits the arrival of
his funny-cat to come home, as people in the neighborhood use-up the
last (we hope) of their 4th of July fireworks and make the cat REALLY
NERVOUS...
Well,
today is the "Fourth of July"
- America's independence from Britain...
- Amazing what 'n' years brings in terms of separating countries by a
common language... - and yes - we started out the day with 16 miles on
our cycles - an American tradition - cycling before breakfast... (and
NO - the above picture is NOT this year's) - it's last-year's when we
attended a 'Fourth Party' at a kite-boarding-friend's place - the view
is south across the St. Lucie River, that's Stuart, Florida (the
'down-town' area) in the distance.
Our Cat, the lovely, wonderful, and sometimes
talkative Ms._Siew_Mei - is NOT FOND, though, of fireworks and
fireworks really only happen twice a year - New Year's and the Fouth,
so today is one of those days when we must impart a lot of 'Cat
Attention' to our furry little friend and tell her that things will be
all-right and we can 'protect' her and make her feel 'special' and
'loved' and so-on and so-forth...
On
Friday, 3rd of July; Mr._Bill did a 60 mile ride (on the NorthWest side
of Lake Okeechobee)) with his (Catrike (recumbent tricycle)) friend,
Mr._Tom_the_Triker from Okeechobee...,.
Sunrise
before we rode, taken from 'Lock 7 park' - nearby to where US 441
intersects State Road 78. (the shoulder of this road (SR78) was
most of our route, and though I 'thought' there would be a lot of
big trucks and a lot of traffic there was not - and it was a very very
pleasant ride with a lot of good scenery to watch (other than just the
lake and it's dike).
These 'inspectors' are provided and the expense of the county (Okeechobee County) to
do a full bicycle and apparel check before a long bicycle / tricycle
ride.
This is a 'carry-over' from 30 June - so maybe it will keep you busy for a while:
Tuesday, 30 June, 2009: if you blink, you'll miss this...
We
got Ms._May a new (used) carbon-frame (and other carbon (read this as
LIGHT)) bicycle yesterday (yeah - I SHOULD have updated the
web-last-night but by the time I would have gotten to it - it would
have been Tuesday, 30th ANYWAY)...
anyway - here's a (BIG) picture of her new bike in the back of the mini-van
-
some details: 4 years old, bought from a (Trek) dealer near Tampa (3 hour drive each way) ,
weighs less than 18 pounds (LESS THAN!) - Mr._Bill, even with gimpy
shoulder can pick this thing up with ONE HAND... - I won't bore you
with the LENGTHY process that it took with (collectively) 5 college
degrees to re-set ALL the parameters in the "Shimano SC6502 Flight Deck
Computer" - but will just say that neither of us alone, nor us
together could really figure out the auto-magic-Japanese translation
until about the fourth or fifth try... (and I thought auto-magic
Cantonese translation was 'fun'! It also has superior technology rims,
spokes, hubs, to say nothing of carbon-fiber crank, handlebars and
seat-post... - OH did I say that I can pick it up with ONE HAND... and
that we got a pretty fair deal on it, too!
AND YES - the VERY
FIRST THING I was required to do (as the wrenching-hubby) when we got
home was to remove the pink water-bottle-holders, and replace them with
something less ostentatious...
We will see just how badly my
huggly_wife can kick-my-butt this morning when we go for our first
ride. I feel I'm in for a whole 'nother level' of bicycle-fitness now
that she has a "REAL" bicycle...
(I might just have to get back on my (17 year old) (carbon) Trek 5200 in order to whup-up on her?)
and - for-to-finish-up this 'episode' - here's a picture of a very very strange cloud
we saw, just west of Yee Haw Junction about 6-7 miles, on the drive
home to Stuart, in what turned out to be not nearly as much rain as we
witnessed on the way over towards Tampa, earlier in the afternoon...
