CAD - CAM - 3D printing:
Now - we've all heard the terms,
we think we know the concepts and we think we understand 'where /
how / what' - etc. - Boy are we ever WRONG!
Last night and today (Friday, 19th), I worked-through an
'introduction' to the CAM world (Computer Aided Manufacturing), and
was I ever stunned... I "THOUGHT" (silly me, of course!) that I knew
and understood this pretty well. After sitting through a 40
minute training video, I decided that this is an area that even with
my 10 years of CAD experience would take me a LONG TIME to get
proficient at. PLUS there is / are about 10
different ways to do this, that, or the other, and in addition to
those 10 ways - there are 5 options for each of those that really
confuse the issue even further.
There is a 'proliferation' today, especially in the "Internet of
Things" and the "Maker" movements of 3D printer(s) and the gadgets
they can make for us. The 3D printing world has MANY
similarities to the CAM world, and it's an area that was brought-out
in some of the training videos.
My bottom-line realization on all of this: - Don't commit to this
field unless you have a LOT of time and a LOT of money to sink into
this - it is a maze that is tremendously complex and would be
time-consuming to learn, understand, work with / in / etc.
Poison_Ivy:
I won't say much, here, except
that YES - STUPID BILL seems to have gotten it 'again'! - but - well
- that's one of the "Joys" of living in Florida and trying to
clean-out the 'Squirrel Run' - (which, don't let anyone attempt to
'fool-you' - the Squirrel Run is just the top of the fence between
us and Mr. K to the East)- and - apparently - it had a LOT of
'grape-vines' (which is what I call Poison Ivy) - the dermatologist
lady called it 'ruhs contact dermatitis'... The bottom-line is that
everything seems to center around "urushiol" which is the
'toxic-ingredient' in these plants... Maybe it's just me that's
allergic to this plant, seems like few others are, anyway - this
time I was covered-up with coveralls and leather gloves, but both
forearms got it - and there were other bits here and there...
Not much happening (yet)... - over the 'Labor Day Weekend' - I was
in Sebring (Florida) for the 33rd annual 'Tour of Sebring' (cycling
event). Three days of cycling, not a race, but a 'ride'... -
for 'details' see my 'blog-site' at:
http://vikingasia.blogspot.com
there are some pictures, some text...
Just two of the MANY MANY pictures taken by Mr. Jim Harris - who is a
photographer who specializes in cycling and animal events (amongst other
things) - his son works with him, now-a-days, and they do some pretty
good work, together...
They are just starting to do "Go-Pro" stuff (Jim drives and his son is
in command of the Go-Pro on a "Stick" - and that gives them a really
flexible and ideal 'platform' for the "Go-Pro" stuff. - they are GOOD
and they charge for their work, but it is definitely worth it...
One of the things they gave me was a 'series' of "Go-Pro" images that I
can patch-together, (supposedly) with the "Go-Pro" software and make a
time-lapse... I'll try to get that on here sometime
soonish...
When I 'get more time' I'll do more test and pictures either there (on
the blogspot-site) or here...
Mr. Panda-Bear's BEEN WASHED (today (Wednesday, 3 September, 2014)
and it was a long and painful process... - he's drying right now - and
the first batch of 'bath water' was definitely 'ookie' - but he liked
being washed (he likes being CLEANER! (maybe he'll get more
HUGGGGGGSSSSssss)) and - well - we'll report, more,
later.... BUT in the meantime - here's his
web-page:
