_CoronaVirus-UpDate:_    (_fall_2020_)

- yes we're basically fine  - the 'stay-at-home' order does not 'materially' affect us

- we were already pretty-much a 'stay-at-home' couple ANYWAY.

we frequently get our groceries delivered to our house via "Instacart" - if you've not tried this it is definitely worth a try

we rarely go out to eat at restaurants these days (I think twice in six months), though sometimes we web-order Dominos and I pick-up pizza and bring it home

we manage about once a month to Lowe's and  GoodWill (great yoga-pants for tricycling) other 'errands' - not nearly the frequency as before

the car(s) feel neglected and I guess our insurance carrier feels 'embarassed' so they send us month 'giveback' checks,

I think, together, we haven't put 2,000 miles on both cars in the last 8 months

we sometimes do 'yard-work' and try to keep our lot looking 'nice', I've cut-down some small trees, and done a lot of 'weeding

I think I / we have TOO MUCH "JUNQUE" - so I'm trying to get rid of some of it - and re-organize the rest so I can deal with it

Some things moved with me to Hong Kong in 1988, and some things, them moved back to the US in 1999, I think maybe if I haven't used them, maybe they should be gone?

I think things like floppy discs, serial ports and 1/4" tape drives for computers are probably NOT COMING BACK INTO FASHION so I should trash them?!

BUT OVERALL, I think we're probably OK...  the 'pandemic' is 'there' but we're pretty careful...

Opening Picture(s) - hope to have at least one each month..

 Foil behind SeaDoo

SSfoil.jpeg

this is the 'bottom' of the 'foiling' board and foil and it's little 'tail-foil'

Retro6.jpeg

this is the sailboard sail that mostly makes the foil 'go'

- but learning boardsailing and learning foiling at the same time is probably NOT the way to go?!

- We both KNEW board sailing fairly well, so the 'foiling' thing 'stretches'our abilities, but not a lot- We can both 'get on the foil' but 'staying' on the fail is the challenge.  May and I are both 'qualified' but I would say we both need more time.. - Right now (Early October 2020) we're focusing on the Europe Dinghies - and that is fun beyond imagination... - LONG TERM - though don't get me wrong I LIKE kiteboards, sailboards, and even the foiling thing though I have not done a lot - but if the Europe is rigged and ready -  I REALLY LIKE small dinghies...!!!

speaking of ....ing type activities - I found this short kiteboarding video recently - it's 35 megs - therefore too much for an e-mail

but you might still like it?  - Keys_Movie.mov

Books - e-books and regular printed books and even a few audio-books

Several books / movies this month that are 'of note' (in my humble opinion):

this one (Book by Walter Tevis - short 'mini-series (some would say TV mini-series) on Netflix)

- both with the name of "The Queen's Gambit" - extraordinary - mostly about chess but has

some other sub-plots that you may find interesting

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Queen%27s_Gambit_(novel)
the book

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_Gambit
the chess strategy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anya_Taylor-Joy
the actress who (I think, I obviously could be wrong)
REALLY Represents the character WELL

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Tevis
the book author

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also on Netflix is a movie about 'Enola' Holmes (yes - you guessed it - Sherlock Holmes little sister) - EXCELLENT movie

- starring Millie Bobby Brown - a fairly new and fairly unknown actress who I think bears watching...

And speaking of "Netflix" there's a documentary there about the beginning months and years of Netflix as a company and how they started something new (e-movies by mail, then a streaming model... this documentary is on both Amazon Prime Video as well as Netflix...

this is a 'law of physics' (I guess) but I think you'll be surprise  -YES - try at home!  -----try this:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennis_racket_theorem

Book / Movie / Series:  ===============

My Abandonment  (book)  by Peter Rock - it was made into a movie - available on "Amazon Prime"  but the movie is called 'Leave no Trace' - about a (war) veteran with PTSD and his daughter (Hanna(no 'h' on the end) living in the national park near Portland, Oregon... - has some interesting moments in it - the two are caught by the police, taken into custody (and housed in concrete boxes, in essence).

Peter Rock's book (and the movie "Leave No Trace" - has the same basic 'premise' (father living with daughter 'in the woods'.

BUT the "original" stuff (series, etc.) is much more well-developed as a 'story-line' - and covers several seasons / episodes.

the 'original 'stuff'' (2010-2012 or so) stars Saoirse Ronan, then Esme Creed-Miles - both young actresses that bear watching and do, both of them, I think

an excellent job in the role..

It gives one a different perspective on what might be considered a "Crime" in our society and what is not - and the plight of Veterans who are attempting to raise a family on 'disability' pay''??? - VERY interesting book, told from the daughter's perspective, very very good. If you want the 'ORIGINAL' movie - it is also available on Amazon Prime Video - but it was done in 2011 - make sure to know the difference...

In all honesty the 'story' is very interesting and both streaming services, movie makers and others have all tried to 'profit' from Peter Rock's originally bringing the story to light, in Portland in the early 2000-2010 time frame... - There have now been two movies, and at least two series (both with the name Hanna (no 'h' at the end))) - be careful when searching / watching / re-searching that you get the 'good-stuff' (the movie with Thomasin McKenzie is the best one, I think... - the 'series' - in my opinion has a lot of 'modern' stuff in it but misses "THE POINT"?!

AND AND AND - this 'series' / movies / books / has a bunch of 'confusing' issues coming and going, but SOME (not all) will recognize that Debra Granik was the director of the movie "Leave No Trace" but she was also the director of "Winter's Bone" - Debra Granik 'brought' Jennifer Lawrence to the 'Big Screen' and I think  (my opinion only) she will have a significant influence on Thomasin McKenzie's growth as an actress  - so - Watch Debra Granik, also...!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Couple of other books: - I have really enjoyed _Kathy_Reichs_ books for nearly 15 years - she apparently took some 'time-off' but is back at it again...

The newest book is called 'A Conspiracy of Bones' but it is extremely new and, apparently not very available - though I guess that will change a lot in the next few weeks.  This book is very (VERY) much about the 'ins and outs' of computer-file encryption, about steganography, about child-abuse, and about the ultimate 'success' of Tempe to solve the case with much help from a lot of people...   There is, also, a couple of new(er) books by Kathy - some e-books but some not... - Deja Dead and Death du Jour

the one I just finished last night was "Bones of the Lost" - about her trying to get a handle on an exhumed body in the middle-east-war-zone and trying to solve a local (North Carolina) murder, at the same time - turns out the two cases are related - who would have guessed?

Kathy Reichs and her son Brendan also wrote the 'Virals' series (web-link!) - this series follows the exploits of "Tory Brenan" and her 'followers' in / around Charleston, S.C., and their use of a boat since their are too young, mostly, to drive. - I really enjoyed these books, also

If (IF IF) you are REALLY INTO 'computer hacking / forensics / stealing files, etc, try Nik Alleyne  who's book ( Learning by practicing - Hack & Detect: ) is VERY GOOD - I have NEVER, EVER seen a book and a 'story-line' as well represented as in this book.  NOTE before you BUY (or e-book this one (which is what I did)) - YOU MUST KNOW some perl, some Python, some Unix (Linux) - before you get and read this book - you will not understand it otherwise, BUT - it is unique in that it presents 'both sides of the story' - the 'hack-into' the company side with many commands and tools and it also presents what the person(s) INSIDE the 'hacked' company would see and how they attempt to 'defend the company's computing-assets from inside and what the inside system-admin does to thwart the person attempting to break-in...

some miscellaneous pictures you may (or may not) have seen before:

Some times, in the morning - there is an earthquake (and consequent " bear'valanche " (as opposed to 'avalanche') here in SE Florida...

Some OTHER times - there is no 'bear' valanche but there are other things of interest!   (one.   two,    three (a video file might take 15 secs to download)   four

Some other times other interesting things happen, - Like on / about 11 June I postal mailed something to Vancouver.

WELL, NOW, it didn't show up, and didn't show up, and so I cancelled it - but it FINALLY Showed-up-there yesterday, after, what, 8 weeks or something like that - seems like a LONG TIME for the postal-mail, huh?  No wonder Trump wants them gone?

PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF "October" is that it is our Wedding Anniversary - Long time - we went sailing, yesterday - we met sailboat racing, so it is appropriate we go sailing sometime near our anniversary. - One has to 'wait on the wind' though it has to be 'Just Right' and it was yesterday.

- MOST of the video files (from our antique GoPro) are too big for an e-mail, but here's  couple you can click-on and view - might take a few seconds to load, though( i would say give most of them AT LEAST 10-15 seconds to load - they are BIG.. and you'll see, below 23 September, which Ms. May was wearing the GoPro on her helmet, then there are some videos from 30 September - and Mr. Bill was wearing the GoPro on a chest-harness - SORRRRY for the yellow ribbon in the way - I've moved that, now..

here's a short video of me walking (at the sailing center ( http://www.usscmc.org )) towards my boat - very boring.

'note' the videos with the round yellow-orange thing (her helmet) in the bottom of the frame and the sail that says "Cathay Pacific Cargo" with the grey-deck (23 September)  is Ms. May Wong, - the sail with "EDI Express" and the blue-deck - (30 September)  that's Mr. Bill...

YOUNG ladies who's mastery of their sport has become not only  a National reputation, but a name on the world stage that really represents

their ultimate weapon is the sport which they have chosen.

boardsailing tricks:  "Sara Quita Offringa"!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4_3jNGbUQ0

This kite-foiler (Kainani Drexler)  is VERY young, but excellent! one video and another:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1-F5wfhsRs

artistic cyclist:  Viola Brand from Stuttgart, Germany.  She got started at 6 years old, and now she's retired at 25... and another longer (8mins) video

put this name ( Brooke Raboutou ) into 'YouTube.com', and/or Wikipedia: (no indication, here, of what You'll find, but I Guarantee you'll be impressed...)

and if that doesn't 'blow your mind' - try this kayaker / canoeist:  http://www.goevy.com

Some things about Hurricanes - we have two 'depressions' at this point, that may turn into storms - WHO KNOWS?

1.) getting-ready - putting up window-covers and tying things down, and etc. etc. etc. is not fun or easy
2.) staying inside a 'mostly dark house' (because once you put up the window-shutters you have no daylight in the house)
    is neither fun nor exciting?
3.) watching the "every 3 hour" NOAA forecast update is neither fun nor exciting
4.) making sure the cars are gassed, that we have insurance, cash, documents, extra water, is neither fun nor exciting
5.) so you ask WHY THE HELL YOU DO IT - if it costs all this pain and strain..

UGH UGH UGH _ I don't KNOW - but I"m looking for a 'way out'?
